Likewise, it\u2019s important to avoid foods that could dislodge the brackets or injure your mouth, such as: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sticky foods (candy, chewing gum, Turkish delights)<\/li>\n<li>Hard foods (popcorn, nuts, dry bread)<\/li>\n<li>Foods that are bitten whole (apples, corn, carrots \u2013 cut into small pieces)<\/li>\n<li>Foreign objects (do not bite pens, pencils or your nails).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Try not to bite with your front teeth and cut your food into small pieces.<\/p>\n<h3>Oral hygiene<\/h3>\n<p>Braces easily trap food residue and plaque, which increases the risk of tooth decay or gingivitis. Here&#8217;s why: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Brush your teeth three times a day, for at least three minutes each time.<\/li>\n<li>Clean all surfaces of the teeth, front, back, above and around the braces.<\/li>\n<li>Use special brushes or a guided floss to clean between the braces and the wire.<\/li>\n<li>Rinse with alcohol-free mouthwash.<\/li>\n<li>Bring your toothbrush to appointments and visit your dentist regularly for cleanings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Adjustment and speech after braces are placed in the first few days<\/h3>\n<p>During the first 3\u20134 days after getting braces, it\u2019s normal to feel a bit strange when speaking.
